Angelina Jolie Awarded Honorary Damehood by the Queen

Oct 10 2014

A luminary on both the Hollywood and humanitarian scenes, Angelina Jolie spent her Friday morning at Buckingham Palace where Queen Elizabeth II awarded her with an honorary Damehood, the female equivalent of an honorary Knighthood. While the actor was named an honorary Dame back in June in the Birthday Honours List, she travelled to the Palace to pick up the award today.

Jolie was given the honour in recognition for her work fighting against sexual violence during war. She was a UN High Commissioner for Refugees for many years before she was promoted to a Special Envoy. Jolie’s lifelong commitment to the cause has prompted her regular visits to international refugee camps.

In her first public appearance since the Jolie-Pitt wedding, the philanthropist and new bride wore a dove-grey suit by British couture house Ralph & Russo.
