“Martorana has built an empire that has attracted the most influential socialites and celebrities around the world.”
The Secret Behind a Well-Dressed Man: Alessandro Martorana
What’s the secret behind a well-dressed man? Exceptionally designed and tailored suits, of course. And Alessandro Martorana can do that – and more.
Custom tailoring with only the finest of fabrics, Martorana has built an empire for himself that has attracted the most influential socialites and celebrities around the world. His suits have also fitted the lifestyles of elite businessman searching for haute couture.
At just thirty-four-years-old, Martorana has established himself as one of the most sought-after designers and tailors in the world, and is engaged to one of the most beautiful women in the show business, Sofia Milos.
“The most important element in my suits is that they are all handmade,” says Martorana. He achieves this by working with his clients on a first-hand basis to ensure high-quality and fit-to-perfection styles.
Martorana’s first-hand work became clear in 2004, when he began travelling with Eurofly on its exclusive and high-class Milan-to-Manhattan flight. In the air, Martorana consults with passengers and designs custom-tailored suits for them.
In one week, Martorana is in at least four different Italian cities, and in London, England, one of the cities where he grew up.
“I’m lucky because I get to work in some beautiful places across the world. When I work, I can also say I’m vacationing, because I love my job so much.”
Martorana also jets around the world several times a month to be with his celebrity clients. “Andy Garcia loves my suits and my opinions about what suits him best. I enjoy that he listens to my advice,” says Martorana.
For Italian soccer player Giuseppe “Pippo” Pancaro’s wedding, Martorana custom tailored a suit for him and created an identical suit for his two-year-old son – Martorana’s youngest client thus far.
Martorana experienced his big break when Lapo Elkann, grandson of former Fiat president Gianni Agnelli, asked Martorana to custom-fit around 80 suits his grandfather left him. “For Elkann, I always create eccentric suits with incredible fabrics,” says Martorana.
Recently, Martorana has collaborated with Ferretti Yachts to provide uniforms for the entire nautical crew. The ensembles are of the highest quality – cut and handsewn to hug the shape of each crew member for the most flattering fit. Born in southern Italy, Martorana spent most of his childhood in Sicily and London. Today, he is wherever he needs to be for his clients.
Whether it’s in their office, at home, in their car, or in the sky – Martorana is accommodating the biggest names across the world.
“If they are American, Canadian, English or French, my designs are inspired by that culture, and result in a fusion of elegance and Italian touches,” says Martorana on what inspires his designs.
In the near future, Alessandro Martorana is expanding by releasing its first women’s collection.
“There is a future for women at Alessandro Martorana, thanks to my fiancée, Sofia Milos. She has helped me so much in designing women’s suits. She has a unique feel for that.”
In an average fitting, Martorana takes 40 measurements and meets with the client three times. At the end of all this, Alessandro Martorana’s high-profile clients have a customized suit that fits like a dream and is comfortable as heaven.
When Martorana does find time to relax, he enjoys watching his friend and client Alessandro Del Piero play on his favourite soccer team, Juventus.
Martorana’s fashion sense can be credited to his fashion-loving family. As a young boy, Martorana spent time in his uncle’s clothing store in London.
“My own fashion style is a mix between English fitting and Italian touches,” says Martorana. “But I just want my clients to be happy with their own style.”
