Victoria Christian: A New Generation of Old-World Luxury

September 1, 2008 by Stephanie D'Angelo

Clive Christian is giving his self-titled brand a fresh and innovative twist, thanks to the help of his daughter Victoria. Known for its eccentric creativity and timeless luxury design, Clive Christian is a distinguished brand that is lauded throughout the world.

As the founder of one of the most prestigious brands in the world, Clive Christian is a British icon that has maintained his exclusive reputation by following a philosophy with which each of his products is created without reference to cost or trends. “This unwavering vision has resulted in a brand recognized for timeless luxury design,” says Clive’s eldest daughter, Victoria Christian, who handles global media and marketing for Clive Christian.

And that’s not all she does. “As Clive’s daughter, I fulfill a role as an ambassador for the company, which I am very proud of,” says Victoria. The 30-year-old beauty joined the company seven years ago, after finishing a musical theatre career in London.

Bringing the Clive Christian brand to new heights while always looking her best, Victoria shares her father’s integrity, hard work and, most importantly, his eye for style. Since acquiring her role at Clive Christian, Victoria has added a personal touch to this tremendous brand, and, at the same time, strengthened her bond with her father.

Although working with family can be a challenge for many, Victoria calls it “a privilege.” Of course, it helps that Victoria and her father had always been close, as she recalls looking to him for advice on life and love. In fact, Victoria still remembers what her father always taught her: “If you think it is right, do it. If you think it is wrong, don’t do it. If you are not sure, do it.”

Clive founded his empire 30 years ago, at just 26 years old. As a young and talented designer, he was the first to incorporate chandeliers into kitchen designs. Today, a stunning chandelier has become the signature of a Clive Christian kitchen and has revolutionized the traditional look of a home, while allowing functionalism and opulence to shine.

About 10 years ago, Clive made the bold decision to revive a British perfumery dating back to the 1800s. The perfumery was internationally famous and distinguished by Queen Victoria, who gave the image of her crown to the bottles as a mark of British excellence.

He credits his move into fragrance to Victoria’s love of perfume. “As a little girl, I remember scent always playing a role in our lives,” she recalls. “It seems as though on reflection, every birthday or holiday had a gift of perfume. It was as though my father was constantly searching for the perfect scent.”

Today, Clive’s famous No. 1 Perfume, which Victoria describes as “the ultimate invisible accessory,” has captured the hearts of perfume devotees everywhere. Designed to be the best of the best, only 1,000 pieces of No.1 for women, and No.1 for men are released each year, and it was officially recognized last year by the Guinness World Records as the world’s most expensive perfume.

This year saw the launch of two new large-scale showrooms for Clive Christian Home, Clive Christian London and Clive Christian New York. Also this year, Clive’s legendary vision will continue in the form of delicate silks and leather handbags.

Despite her obvious success, Victoria’s dolce vita is not about life’s luxuries. “The sweet life is not wanting today to end, and really looking forward to tomorrow,” she says.
