At Home with Martin Daniel Interiors
Offering everything from exclusive furnishings to the most charming of accessories, Toronto-based furniture retailer Martin Daniel Interiors shows us that true beauty is on the inside.
No matter how stunning a house may look from the outside, it’s the interior décor that lends character to a space – setting it apart from its neighbours and often marking the difference between a humble abode and a dream home.
As one of the most recognized interior design studios in the country, Martin Daniel Interiors gives homes the royal treatment, providing its customers with a wide range of posh imported pieces from across the Atlantic, as well as insightful in-home consultations with experienced designers.
“Eighty-five per cent of what’s in our showroom is exclusive to us, which means that when you purchase a piece from Martin Daniel Interiors, you’ve found something unique,” says Valerie Georgiadis, the company’s sales and marketing coordinator, who runs the business alongside her brother Martin and her parents, Ginette and Angelo Simone, who founded Martin Daniel Interiors in 1986.
Since the trends in home design are continuously changing, the Simones attend furniture shows in the fashion-forward countries of France, Belgium and Italy, ensuring that their selection is always avant-garde, boasting the latest and greatest designs on the market.
One such show is Milan’s famous Salon Internazionale del Mobile, the world’s most important design launching pad for the industry. The six-day furniture fair showcases the crème de la crème of European furniture to more than 280,000 visitors.
It is this ahead-of-the-curve European influence that sets Martin Daniel Interiors apart from its competitors. Describing the selection as high-end contemporary, Valerie says that the Classique Gallery inside the store represents the best that Italy has to offer. “This section of our showroom is dedicated to classic antique design, so you can mix these pieces with our contemporary ones to create a new look.”
Accompanying Martin Daniel Interior’s Classique, Modern and Contemporary home collections is celebrated fashion designer Nicole Miller’s wildly popular furniture line, which presents an eclectic combination of elegant and trendy designs. “People love her collection because it’s new and different,” says Valerie.
Apart from the tremendous selection at Martin Daniel Interiors, the company also offers in-home design consultations. The on-staff interior designers visit clients’ homes and work with them on a room-by-room basis, helping them incorporate their new pieces into their home’s décor and colour scheme.
The revered retailer has not only dressed some of the most affluent homes and neighbourhoods in Toronto, but also ships to our neighbours south of the border in Arizona, Florida and Las Vegas, as well as the lively Canadian cities of Montreal, Calgary and Winnipeg. With exclusive pieces and cutting-edge design advice, Martin Daniel Interiors gives homes a touch of European elegance. “When you deal with an exclusive product, it gives your home an edge on design and style,” says Valerie.
With fall just around the corner, updating our home’s décor with the trends of the season is a must. Luckily, Valerie has some valuable advice. “We’re going to be seeing a softer palette this fall; I would say that lilac, mushroom and soft grey are the colours of the season,” she forecasts. “There’s also a strong influence of black and white, and almost every piece seems to have an element of high-gloss lacquer … It’s probably the biggest European trend right now.”
