			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Like a snarling beast charging towards its unsuspecting prey, the all-new 2012 Jaguar XKR-S is a startling automotive predator. Yes, you heard right: Jaguar. The brand that’s been more recently known for quiet refinement, sophistication and comfort has shredded its three-piece suit and gone feral.</p>
<p>If you craved speed in the not-so-distant-past, a Jaguar dealership would just be a speck in your rear-view. Not to say that Jags couldn’t move – the brand was simply more about style, status and luxury than performance. But as of late, Jaguar has been trying to get back in the fast lane. It’s been turning to its roadster past, remembering memorable autos such as the iconic E-Type of the ’60s and the XJ220, which held the title for highest top speed of a production car from 1992 – 1994. The last few iterations of the XKR, for example, may not have appeared as aggressive as the similar style of the Aston Martin DBS, but the menacing growl of its 510 ponies was cower-inducing. Even the newest XJs are impressively quick. Jaguar is serious about speed, and the XKR-S is its trump card.

<p>The moment you plant the pedal, this beast makes is presence known, and boy, does it ever sing. The XKR-S’s recalibrated 5-Litre V-8 engine roars as if it’s on a thunderous vendetta. The machine-gunning is amplified through the Jag’s free-flow exhaust system, producing a sound that will make gear heads melt. And while the engine’s growl is arresting, when you pull back the throttle, the XKR-S tones down the vulgarity, bringing back that polished Jag poise.</p>
<p>The supercharged V-8’s blistering drumming isn’t just for show, either. Serving an additional 40-horsepower and 41 pound-feet of torque over the standard XKR, the XKR-S pumps 550-HP and 501 lb-ft of torque through the rear wheels, making this Jaguar’s most powerful car on the road. It peaks at 300 kilometres per hour and can reach 100 km in 4.4 seconds – astonishing speed, especially for a Jag. So much so that the XKR-S can easily hang with other sports coupes like the Mercedes SL 63 AMG, Aston Martin DBS and Audi R8 4.2.</p>
<p>To help keep the ferocity under control, Jaguar has fitted the XKR-S with a lightweight aluminum body and stiffer suspension, making steering far more precise. Even at high speeds, the XKR-S’s responsive handling keeps it planted in the corners. If you’re daring enough to disengage its traction-control collar, though, it isn’t afraid to flick its tail out. With its knife-fighter agility, you’ll be able to make this beauty dance on the track, no question.</p>
<p>Speaking of beauty, the XKR-S is a strikingly handsome machine. And while, again, it might not be as imposing as its Aston cousin, you certainly won’t be afraid to show it off.</p>
<p>Inside, that Jaguar luxury is still present. Optional Reims Blue micro-piping and stitching accents the interior’s soft grain leather, while blue ambient lighting glows behind the dash. Door panels are accentuated with carbon leather detailing for extra style and special performance; 16-way adjustable seats are correspondingly upholstered and exceptionally comfortable. You’ll find a 7-inch touch screen with satellite navigation, Bowers &amp; Wilkins 525 W sound system, and Jaguar’s futuristic JaguarDrive Selector, which rises from the centre console once the cat comes alive.</p>
<p>The XKR-S is a bold departure for Jaguar, built with one thing in mind: speed. It’s a car that demands to be seen, discarding Jag’s usually discreet demeanour. Due to the familiar exterior of the 2011 Infiniti IPL G37 Coupe, at a quick glance, you might not notice the subtle yet confident styling that gives this sleek car a stronger, more aggressive posture. And that would be a shame, because this muscular Coupe can stand assuredly, thanks to a boost in both power and performance.

<p>If that new IPL badge throws you off, just think along the lines of BMW’s M series or Mercedes’ AMG line. While its performance upgrades are not quite as extreme, Infiniti’s IPL G37 Coupe still brings noticeable enhancements that don’t come with the massive price jumps accompanying the aforementioned automotive lines.</p>
<p>Through engine modifications and an improved exhaust system, Infiniti has managed to squeeze an extra 18 more horsepower and 6 more pounds of torque from the 3.7-Litre V-6 engine, pushing out a total of 348-HP and 276 lb.-ft. of torque. Stiffer front and rear suspension and sport-tuned steering also give more athletic handling and smooth the ride for this rear-wheel-drive beauty.</p>
<p>Although the extra ponies are just a pedal push away, the IPL G37 doesn’t sacrifice on fuel economy. For a vehicle that thrives on performance and power, it still achieves 11- L/100 kilometres in the city and 7.4-L/100 km on the highway – quite impressive, especially for a sports car.</p>
<p>Inside, stylish red stitching accents the steering wheel and red leather seats, while aluminum trim, pedals and footrest gives a masculine accent. All the bells and whistles you’ve come to expect on the base G37 are here as well, like remote keyless entry, push-button ignition, automatic temperature control, touch screen navigation system, and a Bose sound system with 11 speakers, just to name a few. And although you’re limited in paint options – Graphite Shadow and Malbec Black – the IPL G37 comes laced-up with 19-inch split 7-spoke rims bound with Bridgestone performance rubber.</p>
<p>Infiniti also plans to add a convertible IPL G Coupe to the line up for spring 2012, but if a hard top is what turns your crank, than look no further than the IPL G37.</p>

<p>I learn this lesson seconds after slipping into the passenger seat of a 2011 G37 IPL Coupe at Infiniti’s media event at Montreal’s Circuit Icar. The luxury auto brand’s newest global ambassador, Red Bull racer Sebastian Vettel, takes the wheel, as he whips me through the track just days before the Canadian Grand Prix. “So we’re going extra fast!” says the 24-year-old with a mischievous grin.

<p>I take Vettel’s words as a warning as he peels out, thrashing the concrete with brazen force, letting all 330 ponies out of the gate. Conducting an interview while being jackhammered left and right by a car that’s travelling about 220 kilometres per hour can be a challenge, but when you only have three minutes to chat with a defending world champ, somehow you figure it out. “It’s quite, quite tough you know. People don’t think that it’s very physical but it is very much so,” says the German racer, who can be seen flying up to 360km/h when competing. “When you are about to start a race, you feel your heart beat and of course you’re nervous, but it’s positive.”</p>
<p>The evolution of Vettel was set in motion when he first stepped into a go-kart at age 3. You could say that the rest is history, but that would be cutting the book short – the F1 pole leader still has a long road of victories ahead. “I don’t really care about the age,” says Vettel, his blond hair and blue eyes painting an even more youthful appearance. “Maybe when I’m old you know, it’s nice if up to that point no one has beaten that record to look back and say, ‘look I was quite young when I achieved that.’”</p>
<p>Vettel reflects on the irony of going wheel-to-wheel with his childhood idol, Michael Schumacher (who he now repeatedly outraces). “It’s a bit strange, because you know, I’ve been looking up to Michael basically all my life … I started karting when he was already in F1, so if you think of it from that way it’s quite, quite special,” says Vettel, drifting side-to-side with a smile.  “Make sure you don’t go like this on the roads,” he jokes.</p>
<p>Along with his astonishing F1 track record, Vettel attracts more attention with his high-spirited, unmanufactured persona. Clearly not a product of public relations polishing, Vettel’s greenness has him revealing the female nicknames he has for his cars and how he splashed celebratory champagne on a national guard after winning Monaco’s Grand Prix.</p>
<p>As my ride ends, Vettel’s begins. A gruelling 70 laps later at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, he stood second on the podium next to Red Bull teammate Mark Webber. Six Grand Prix’s have passed since our Montreal rendezvous, and after a tearful win in Italy Vettel has a tough-to-beat 112 point lead. If he goes “extra fast” at the next circuit, he’ll secure his second consecutive world championship, an impressive feat for a racer of any age.</p>

<p>As many auto enthusiasts know, the S 550 has always retained an exceptional standard of luxury. The 2011 iteration of the S 550, for example, featured a plush and spacious interior lined with elegant furnishings, including high-gloss trim in cashmere beige and alpaca grey; leather seating and plenty of legroom for backseat passengers. Mercedes has stayed faithful to that standard with the 2012 S 550 Biturbo, however, this urbane sedan has a special secret.</p>
<p>At first glance, the simple and esthetically familiar exterior of the S 550 Biturbo may give thoughts of unpretentious, reserved luxury, but don’t be fooled – this gentleman is an assassin. Much like Clark Kent at a wedding, the sophisticated appearance of the S 550 Biturbo masks the raw power hidden within. “The 2012 model we tested is a 429-horsepower Biturbo engine,” says Williams. “It produces 516 pounds of torque and gives you a 10 – 15 per cent increase in fuel efficiency.” This staggering amount of horsepower and torque is 38 more ponies and 125 more pounds of torque than the previous 5.4-litre V-8 engine S 550, even though the 2012 Biturbo uses a smaller 4.6-L engine.</p>
<p>The 2012 S 550 draws this newfound muscle from its burly, direct injected, twin-turbo V-8 engine. “Compared to the normally aspirated sedan, this car actually has all the acceleration that you want,” says Williams. “It’s instant gratification and it has no turbo lag whatsoever.”</p>
<p>The 2011 S 550 was already running 0 – 100 kilometres per hour in 5.4 seconds. With additional power pumping through the veins of this modestly clad animal, the S 550 Biturbo expeditiously accelerates from 0 – 100 km/h in five seconds flat. This impressive time creeps up on recent renditions of many high-powered sports cars, including the Maserati GranTurismo S, Audi R8 and Aston Martin V8 Vantage, and even stays tight in the rear-view mirror of the much more powerful Mercedes V12 S 600. No doubt, the Biturbo is a sleeper, through and through.</p>
<p>All that power doesn’t mean a sacrifice to the drive. As Williams explains, “Even though the new S 550 Biturbo we tested is a short wheel base, it still gives you that luxurious ride that you’ve come to expect from Mercedes-Benz, thanks to its Airmatic air suspension with Adaptive Damping System [(ADS)].” What’s more, much like the 2011 S 550, the model Williams tested came equipped with Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, making it far more prepared for the icy Canadian winters than its rear-wheel-drive kin.</p>
<p>Although this added performance boost may seem superfluous to those simply looking for a luxury sedan for the family, it is still a viable option for drivers who desire the best of both worlds. This car is a benchmark in touring sedans, and an excellent addition to the garage of those searching for a car that doesn’t sacrifice power for comfort. As Williams concludes, “Overall, the new S 550 Biturbo gives you all the characteristics that you’ve come to expect from Mercedes-Benz, and gives you the extra power and fuel efficiency that you’ve been looking for.”</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Recently launched to the marketplace is the all-new 5 Series mid-size luxury sedan. Once upon a time, the 5 Series was referred to as <em>the</em> sport sedan in the mid-size premium class, as it offered class-leading performance and handling dynamics that earned its keepsake. Taut, handsome and restrained styling became the 5 Series hallmark. As each new generation of 5 Series came to market, larger dimensions added refinement, and luxury amenities became more pronounced to the point that today’s all-new 2011 5 Series is at a level where the larger, more prestigious flagship 7 Series used to reside. A new addition to the 5 Series body style is the Grand Turismo crossover wagon, which oddly enough launched ahead of the 5 Series sedan. Breaking with tradition, the Grand Turismo offers a practical lift-back profile and high roofline to maximize cabin space. In the styling department, the new 5 Series sedan takes a more conservative approach with very handsome and understated lines. It’s a nice departure from the previous model, which was universally criticized for its over-the-top, controversial design. Unfortunately, as attractive as the body looks, the new styling lacks its own distinct identity, as it looks overly similar to the larger 7 Series sedan. This is no coincidence as the new 5 Series shares the same platform as the larger and heavier 7 Series.

<p>The mainstay of the all-new 5 Series is the sedan model that consists of the 528i and 535i. Both are powered by an in-line six-cylinder engine that provides the renowned turbine-like smoothness of BMW’s in-line sixes. Unlike past BMWs, the numerical badges on the trunk lid no longer signify the actual engine displacement. Both the 528i and 535i employ the same 3.0-Litre engine where the difference is that the 535i uses a twin turbo to produce 300-horsepower vs. the non-turbo 528i that puts out 240-HP. For the overachievers, there’s the big kahuna 550i with its 4.4-L, V-8 twin turbo engine developing an impressive 400-HP and 450-lb. ft of torque. The standard transmission for all models is an eight-speed automatic. Being a driver’s car, it’s only natural that a manual transmission is still offered in both the 535i and 550i, but only in rear-wheel-drive models. This is a no-charge option, which should keep hardcore BMW fans happy. BMW’s very competent and sophisticated X-Drive all-wheel-drive system is available on both the 535i and 550i. To retain a rear-wheel-drive feel that is essential in a vehicle of this nature, the all-wheel-drive system is configured with a 40:60 torque split, where 40 per cent of the power goes to the front wheels and the remaining 60 per cent drives the rear wheels. With no driver intervention, the X-Drive AWD system goes about its job providing maximum traction and control for all-weather driving conditions.</p>
<p>In its quest to be a segment leader, the 5 Series comes with a very long list of convenience, luxury, safety and entertainment amenities. The base models are fairly equipped but when looking at the available packages, one can’t help but notice how much more technology the 5 Series can come with when pricey option packages get selected. Some of the available features are Active Cruise Control with Stop &amp; Go function; Park Assistant for the parking challenged; Lane Departure Warning System to warn of lane wandering; Active Blind Spot Detection for detecting vehicles in the driver’s blind spot, Night Vision with pedestrian detection, Head-Up display and Surround View cameras.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Mercedes-Benz is on a sales roll lately, with a variety of fresh new products that are receiving a lot of attention from consumers. One that stands out is the C-Class four-door sedan. Launched about two years ago, the C-Class took centre stage with new aggressive styling that included a sports package designed by AMG, the performance division of Mercedes-Benz. In Canada, the C-Class comes in one body style with four engine choices, two transmissions (six-speed manual for the C250 and C300) and two drivetrains (RWD or full-time AWD). The engine choices start with the 201-horsepower 2.5L V-6 in the C250. Next up the ladder is C300 with the 3.0L 228-hp V-6 and then the C350, equipped with the 268-hp V-6. The top dog C-Class is the AMG-powered C63 with a huge 6.3-L V-8 putting out an insane 441 horsepower! It also includes racy bodywork with four large exhaust pipe outlets to match the exotic car-like performance.

<p>Being the top grade in the C-Class family, outside of the outrageous AMG-powered C63, the C350 looks decidedly racy as it gets the standard sport package with large 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. Look closely and you’ll notice that the rear tires (255/35R18) are much wider than the fronts (225/40R18), promising excellent cornering grip. The wide rear tires also add to the solid stance when viewed from the rear. Breaking from past Mercedes-Benz passenger car styling convention, the C350’s standard sport package also includes the front grille design traditionally found on Mercedes coupes. The rest of the styling package includes a deeper front air dam, lower side sills and rear apron. Completing the aggressive styling are two large exhaust outlets on either side of the lower rear bumper. Those who still want the traditional styling that includes the upright chrome front grille with stand-up hood ornament are limited to the C250, as it is the only model in the C-Class family that offers the “old-school” design.</p>
<p>Inside, the C350 is easily recognizable as a Mercedes-Benz; the cabin shows off elegance and good taste and has the familiar three-gauge instrument panel that harks back to past designs. The gauges themselves have a finely crafted look and look really great at night. As expected, Burl Walnut wood trim is standard, adding to the luxury feel expected in the C350. Fine detailing can be seen in the use of metal trim surrounding various areas of the dash and door panels. Specially cut metal dials are also used in the climate controls and also in the COMAND control system for added style. Looks can be deceiving as the C350’s cabin is unexpectedly spacious, especially in the rear cabin with a useable amount of leg and headroom. Both front and rear seating offers good support and long distance comfort. A panoramic moonroof is available, which is becoming more popular these days and totally transforms the look and feel of the interior.</p>
<p>Under the hood, the C350 with its 3.5-L 268-hp V-6 gives out a nice deep sounding exhaust note, especially under hard acceleration. Matched to the engine is a smooth shifting seven-speed automatic transmission. For drivers who want added involvement, the transmission offers a sequential shift system that also throttle blips the engine during downshifts for smoother operation and also a sportier engine note.</p>
<p>When it comes to handling, the C350 is surprisingly fun and agile in the corners, with little body roll when pushed hard, and offers very good steering feedback and feel to the driver. The brakes with crossed drilled front discs bite hard with excellent modulation giving a lot of driver confidence. The C350 is offered in rear-wheel-drive and 4MATIC full-time-all-wheel-drive that is great for all-weather driving.</p>
<p>There is no denying the strong appeal of the C350, with its sporty sophisticated styling, solid as a bank vault feel, high safety content and excellent driving dynamics that puts it on the very desirable list of cars to have.</p>

It has curvy, aggressive bodywork that is almost seductive from some angles, especially when equipped with the sport grade’s aggressively styled 20-inch wheels with split five-spoke design. The sleek and wide powerful stance is hard to ignore and credit goes to the designers for finally getting the design right on the new “M.” Previous generation designs have struggled to get to this level of style and substance with their generic looks. Much of the new styling cues can be found from the Infiniti Essence showcar concept that made the autoshow rounds a few years ago, which showed off the new design language for Infiniti’s future styling direction.

<p>The model name “M56” is fairly nondescript. It’s only when seen in person that the M56 truly impresses. The “56” part is what’s going to raise eyebrows, as it stands for the engine’s displacement size of 5.6 litres with huge amounts of firepower under the hood. The large direct-injected V-8 puts out an astounding 420-horsepower and almost an equal amount of torque at 417 lb.-ft. Getting the power to the rear wheels is a seven-speed automatic transmission with a selection of drive modes that include Snow, ECO and Sport settings. With horsepower at its disposal, Sport Mode would seem to be the default as the insane acceleration the M56 is capable of can be intoxicating. In manual mode, using the steering wheel Paddle shifters, the rev-matching downshifts provide added aural feedback, and this function also helps to smooth out the harshness when a lower gear is selected.</p>
<p>Infiniti offers six grades of “M” to choose from, starting off with the $52,400 rear-wheel-drive M37 with a 3.7-L, V-6 engine that produces a generous 330-horsepower. Next up is the M37x all-wheel-drive and M37 Sport. The V-8 models are made up of the M56 rear-wheel-drive, M56x AWD and M56 Sport that tops out at $73,400. The sport grades offer a stiffer suspension set-up and standard 20-inch wheels, larger disk brakes and four-wheel steering for added dynamic agility. Sport front seats with prominent side bolsters will help keep the driver and front occupant in place during hard cornering.</p>
<p>When choosing a car with over 400-horsepower, it’s usually wise to opt for the all-wheel-drive model as it will get the power to the road a lot more effectively than the standard rear-wheel-drive system. With this driver’s heavy right foot, the traction control system was working overtime trying to keep wheelspin under control! Misbehaving is easy as the driver has the option of deactivating the traction control system.</p>
<p>Once inside, the cabin will impress with its elegant and modern design. With the generous use of leather throughout, combined with tasteful application of silver powdered wood accents and metal trimmings, the cabin is luxurious. Pampering the occupants is a broad array of amenities expected in this class. A great feature is the available heated steering wheel that is truly appreciated on those cold winter days. Audiophiles will appreciate the available 16-speaker Bose system with surround sound and a hard drive for storage of up to 2,900 songs. The navigation system is unique with its 3-D graphics and also incorporates a rear-view display when reverse gear is selected. First time offered on Infiniti is the Forest Air system, designed to contain unwanted odours and keep the air smelling fresh within the cabin, which can keep the peace during long-distance travel.</p>
<p>On the safety side, Infiniti has equipped the M with an arsenal of devices to keep the driver and occupants out of harm’s way. These consist of a Blind Spot alert system and Lane Departure prevention system that can actually steer the car back to its lane if the system detects another vehicle within its range.</p>
<p>When shopping in this category, it’s hard to ignore the all-new Infiniti M56 as the attractive styling and immensely powerful V-8 combined with a luxurious interior puts it squarely against the top dogs like the new BMW 5-series and Mercedes E-Class.</p>

This new model has taken the gloves off and slapped competition in the face. It’s stylish, speedy, sexy and it just makes you want to drive it. Cars will cower and roadsters will weep. Upon acceleration, rivalry will transform into noticeably red-faced grimaces that will make any low-flying aircraft in the vicinity mistake them for pylons. At that point, you can whip around them with the Supersports’ zero-to-100-km/h-in-3.9-second capability, which is pretty amazing for a car that weighs over 5,000 pounds.</p>
<p>Engineered to impress, the 2011 Continental Supersports is the fastest Bentley ever built for the road. It is also the fastest four-seat convertible production car in the world. Only at the track and on the autobahn will drivers be able to forget about Botox and receive a healthy facelift while chasing the speed of light with the Supersports’ top speed of 324 km/h. So that’s a 620-horsepower, twin turbocharged, W-12 Bentley engine that’s able to produce 590 pound-feet of torque. It also runs on bio-fuel, petrol or any combination of the two. So if you show empathy for the environment and have roughly a quarter million dollars to spend on a vehicle, then look no further: this car’s for you.

<p>No one understands this better than Joe Fabiani, founder of Fabspeed Motorsports, and bona fide car enthusiast. “Exotic cars are my passion,” he says. “They are simply beautiful pieces of artwork that you can actually drive and experience. They are fast and fun, and make you feel alive.”</p>
<p>A passion rooted deep in his childhood, Fabiani always knew on some level that cars would be part of his future. From a young age, the budding entrepreneur would visit his father, an orthopedic surgeon, at his office and flip through the pages of his auto magazines, dreaming that he would one day be driving the exotic cars that graced the gleaming pages. As he grew older, Fabiani’s childhood dream materialized when he realized that he was not satisfied with German-and-Italian-made exhaust systems, and wanted to create his own alternatives.
